Behind the build.

Guide Architecture partnered with Atrium Health to provide architectural and interior design services for Union West Hospital, a new greenfield campus located in Stallings, North Carolina. The 150,000-square-foot acute care facility establishes a new regional destination for high-quality, community-based healthcare within the Atrium Health system. The hospital features 40 inpatient beds, 10 observation beds, 10 emergency treatment rooms, diagnostic imaging services, surgical facilities, and comprehensive support spaces designed for future expansion. The design emphasizes operational efficiency, staff collaboration, and patient comfort through clear circulation paths, intuitive wayfinding, and access to natural light. Durable, evidence-based interior finishes were selected to support infection prevention while maintaining a hospitality-inspired aesthetic consistent with Atrium Health’s brand standards.

The project was delivered through a highly coordinated, multidisciplinary effort that integrated architectural, structural, MEP, and medical planning teams to achieve a cost-effective, flexible facility aligned with FGI Guidelines and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services requirements. Guide Architecture collaborated closely with Atrium Health leadership, Perkins&Will, and the broader consultant team to deliver a patient-focused, technology-enabled environment that supports both current and future healthcare delivery models.
