Behind the build.
Guide Architecture provided full architectural design services for the Collin Springs Psychiatric Hospital in McKinney, Texas. This 72-bed behavioral health facility serves adult, geriatric, and adolescent populations in a secure, therapeutic environment designed to promote healing and safety. The program features an ECT therapy suite, an outpatient department, comprehensive dietary services, an exercise room, outdoor courtyards, and all necessary clinical and support functions. The facility is licensed by Texas Health and Human Services under Chapter 510 as a Private Psychiatric Hospital.
The design emphasizes a balance between safety, operational efficiency, and restorative aesthetics. A signature board-formed concrete wall anchors the exterior and extends into the double-volume dining and main lobby areas, creating a distinctive architectural feature. The exposed structural elements and large expanses of glazing at the entry provide natural light and visual connection to the landscaped courtyards, reinforcing a sense of openness and calm for patients, visitors, and staff alike. Guide Architecture collaborated closely with the operator and healthcare consultants to deliver a compliant, durable, and human-centered behavioral health environment that reflects a modern, evidence-based approach to psychiatric care.
