Behind the build.
Guide Architecture provided full architectural and interior design services for the Copper Springs East Psychiatric Hospital in Gilbert, Arizona. The facility serves adult, geriatric, and adolescent patient populations within a secure, therapeutic environment designed to promote safety, wellness, and recovery. The program includes inpatient units, an electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) suite, an outpatient department, an exercise gym, outdoor courtyards, and all required clinical and support spaces. A defining architectural feature of the project is the 18-foot-tall by 160-foot-long rammed earth wall that forms the backdrop to a xeriscaped entry courtyard—an element both regionally inspired and environmentally responsive to Arizona’s arid landscape. This feature anchors the campus, blending natural materials with contemporary healthcare design to create a warm, grounded, and contextually appropriate environment.
Natural light, durable finishes, and clear sightlines throughout patient and staff areas contribute to a restorative setting that supports both behavioral health outcomes and operational efficiency. Guide Architecture collaborated closely with the operator and consultants to deliver a facility that embodies regional character while meeting all safety and regulatory requirements for behavioral healthcare.
