Behind the build.
Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana – Lafayette is a specialized behavioral health hospital developed through a partnership between Ochsner Lafayette General and Oceans Healthcare to expand access to comprehensive mental health services throughout the Acadiana region. The project involved the adaptive reuse, renovation, and expansion of an approximately 31,500-square-foot, one-story healthcare facility, transforming a previously licensed long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) into a modern, licensed psychiatric hospital.
A unique aspect of the project was the extensive transformation of the existing facility. The building was completely demolished back to the exterior studs and comprehensively redesigned to meet the specialized clinical, safety, and operational requirements of an inpatient behavioral health environment. The resulting facility significantly expands inpatient behavioral health capacity while providing a therapeutic setting focused on patient safety, dignity, and recovery.
GUIDE Architecture provided planning, design, documentation, and construction administration services, applying specialized behavioral health design expertise to support a safe, patient-centered environment and the operational needs of Ochsner Lafayette General and Oceans Healthcare.
